The Mawai Village Project is a renovation project seeking to adopt the original natural and cultural site contexts by using modern village style for its architectural design. Previously an unused worker’s quarter, the building is refurbished into a resort by retaining the original structures and having new spaces planned around them. A cluster organization layout with accommodations arranged around common spaces is adopted, the focal point of the layout being an indoor central courtyard, providing opportunities to interact with nature to all corners of the house. An outdoor patio space act as buffer zone between the indoor and outdoor, blurring the boundaries and blending them seamlessly together.

Windows are arranged playfully on the featured façade, representing an embodiment of the energetic and vigorous landscape surrounding the resort and drawing glimpses of the outdoor into interior spaces. The overall architectural tone is minimalistic to not overpower the surrounding natural elements but at the same time still forms a distinct modern village style identity.

The result is a modern concept derived from reinterpreting the originals and respecting the surrounding site contexts.
